Mohamed Salah is second on the list of Premier League players with most goals after 100 games

Mohamed Salah made his 100th Premier League appearance for Liverpool on Saturday and scored his 70th goal in the process.

That is an outstanding return for a wide forward who cost just £36 million in the summer of 2017.

Salah, who struggled at Chelsea during an earlier spell in England, has exceeded all expectations at Anfield and is firmly on course to cement his status as one of the club’s greatest ever forwards.

The Egyptian has scored more goals than Michael Owen (54), Luis Suarez (62), Robbie Fowler (62) and Fernando Torres (63) in his first 100 league games for the Reds, which is some achievement.

“Mo Salah is a unique player,” former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy told talkSPORT this week. “To score this many goals so quickly from that wide position is sensational.

“To compare him to strikers is difficult because he doesn’t play centrally, but to achieve what he has so quickly from a wide role is a better achievement than what any of the strikers at Liverpool have achieved.

“He’s probably been as good a buy for Liverpool as anyone over the last ten years.”

But how does Salah’s record of 70 goals in 100 league games for Liverpool compare to other strikers during the Premier League era?

Let’s take a look at the top 10

10. Harry Kane (Tottenham) | 59 goals

Burnley v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League

9. Thierry Henry (Arsenal) | 59 goals

8. Luis Suarez (Liverpool) | 62 goals

7. Robbie Fowler (Liverpool) | 62 goals

6. Fernando Torres (Liverpool) | 63 goals

5. Andy Cole (Newcastle/Man Utd) | 63 goals

4. Sergio Aguero (Man City) | 64 goals

3. Ruud van Nistelrooy (Man Utd) | 68 goals

Manchester United v Manchester City

2. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) | 70 goals

Liverpool FC v AFC Bournemouth - Premier League

1. Alan Shearer (Blackburn) | 79 goals

Only Alan Shearer, the Premier League’s record goalscorer, had a better return in his first 100 league appearances than Salah, which is pretty remarkable.

Salah has a better goals-to-games ratio from his first 100 appearances than the likes of Van Nistelrooy and Aguero.

Henry, who is regarded by many as the greatest player of the Premier League era, scored 11 fewer goals than Salah in his first 100 games for Arsenal.

Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, doesn’t even make the top 10 - although he was still quite raw when he first joined Man Utd. There’s no sign of Wayne Rooney, either.

These stats further emphasise that Salah is unquestionably one of the best Premier League signings of recent times.
