Arsenal's announcement that Mikel Arteta had been diagnosed with coronavirus was a turning point for the Premier League.

On Thursday night, it was still expected that the weekend's fixtures would go ahead until the Gunners released their statement.

That changed everything and suddenly made the crisis feel all too real for everyone involved in football.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has also confirmed he has recovered from the illness in recent days, with players at numerous other top-flight clubs having showed symptoms and been forced into self-isolation.

Arteta's is such a high-profile case that it has attracted a huge amount of attention and concern, but the Arsenal manager has now taken to Twitter to address the situation for the first time.

"Thanks for your words and support," Arteta writes.

"Feeling better already. We’re all facing a huge & unprecedented challenge.

"Everyone’s health is all that matters right now. Protect each other by following the guidelines & we’ll come through this together.

"Well done PL for making the right decisions."

Arsenal Training Session

Arsenal's midweek game against Manchester City, which was supposed to take place on Wednesday, had already been called off even before the entire Premier League was suspended.

That was after it was confirmed that Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis had tested positive for coronavirus, just weeks after his side had visited the Emirates for their Europa League tie.

His case is not believed to be linked to Arteta's.

Let's hope he continues to make a full and speedy recovery.
